Authenticity Assessment

The Bullshit Meter.

Authenticity is when what you say about a situation comes from you — from a place of genuine commitment and caring.

Inauthenticity is when you derive who you are or what you say from something outside yourself — what your parents told you, what a figure said, what you think the world wants, what you imagine another person needs. It's a way of pawning off your own agency onto these imagined sources. You end up going along with, or deferring to, something outside yourself.

The tell: when pressed, you offer things you secretly know aren't actually true — then pawn them off on a fiction you've invented about an external source. "They need me to be in control all the time." But nobody ever actually said that. You use it to fuel your racket.

This isn't about whether what you're saying is true or false. It's about whether it's yours — or pawned off.

Bring something you say you believe — about a relationship, about politics, about what you "have to" do — and parse it through the lens of authenticity. It takes about 3 minutes. No sign-in. Nothing is saved.

Free. No sign-in required. Takes about 3 minutes.
